My team and I are leaving for Salar de Uyuni in South America on the 30th. We will be competing to try and set the motorcycle land speed record over 400 mph. Why Salar de Uyuni? It is the world's largest salt flat at over 4,000 square miles. for comparison, Bonneville is approximately 45 square miles, and the salt is deteriorating badly. Another benefit is the elevation. Altitude at this location is 12,000 feet. This is a huge benefit in less aerodynamic drag. To compensate for the thinner air, Garrett turbos made us a specially designed turbo similar to ones they build for performance aircraft that perform at similar elevation. The meet starts Aug 3rd and runs through the 8th. This is the first of its kind, and will open doors for future speed record attempts for those willing to travel to South America.
Here's a short video of our upcoming journey:

Jeez Rocky - you wouldn't want to hit one of those birds at 400mph!

That looks like a fantastic adventure. I'm as jealous as hell!

Good luck in fulfilling your mission!

Rocky, best of luck pushing those boundaries.
Is Bonneville losing its lure as a speed trial destination ?
I can however see a problem Triumph will not sell many Triumph Uyuni 750s

Definitely an adventure with a lot to be learned. I'd be interesting to see the performance data at that altitude. Looks like a fun time. Best of luck

400 mph. I've been in slower jets than that.

With that humbling image, I'm not sure I can feel any longer like a badass while lifting the front wheel out of a corner at 50 mph....

    Stay safe.

    Hi Rocky,

I see that you've made it into the Nov edition of Bike magazine here in the UK. Whole piece on Bolivia, you and Mike Akatiff.

    Nice write-up.
