replaced the Tracer/FJ09 with a Tiger Explorer - this has all the toys just like the RS. Great on bumpy roads and hopefully won't make my hip play up on longer rides. The RS won't go as I love riding it but anything over 100 miles gets painful for my right hip.
Garage now all blue and shaft drive.

My previous bike was the sterling BMW K1600GT. [IMG]

And my first real street bike was a Kawasaki 550 GPZ. [IMG]
    Nice legs, eh?

One of my favorite bikes was the R12RT - very comfortable. [IMG]

Just curious Gregory. Why did you get rid of the 1600?

It is the finest touring bike you can purchase but when I went from 3 long trips per year to 1 it didn't make sense to keep it as my go to bike.

The weight and expense of 4 more cylinders was holding me back from fully enjoying the local rides that make up 95% of my riding.

Here are a few of my bikes. Also had a few other Hondas, Yamahas & Kawasaki. My 1st BMW was a F 800GT ( could not upload a 2nd pic). Loved them all after a 1st bike ride on a RD350LC.

Just found a picture of this. My CB500. It had, Powemax pistons, high lift cams, double rate valve springs, re-jetted cards and a bespoke stainless exhaust made by a mate who worked in a boat builders. ;) IIRC red lined at 9500 it revved right though the red zone and up to about 11500 rpm. No rev limiters in those days 001E2D00-EEF9-46B5-B321-EF151AF5A4DF.jpeg
The brakes were non standard and appalling. I thought it was the absolute dogs bollocks.

When I was about 14 some guy my older sister was hanging out with bought a new one , he took me for a ride and I was awe struck at the smoothness and power. Seems funny now but in 1973 it was the bees knees!

Here was my 1977 CB550K. One of the better bikes of the decade. :) I'll toss in a couple more photos of some of the 45 motorcycles that I have owned.

That was my daughter's first motorcycle - although I put most of the miles on it. ;) It is a completely stock 1987 Yamaha SRX250TC. I paid $2,000 for it new. That was a hot little bike. :) One time I rode it down to pick up my BMW at the shop 40 miles away, with my daughter on the rear seat. I was able to hold 90 mph on the freeway, redlined at 9K rpm. As I recall it had two carbs, one pulled by a cable and the other linked to the first and operated by vacuum, in concept like a 2-barrel auto carb. I think it was only sold in the U.S. for two years - never to be seen again here. We sold the Yamaha and bought her a 1990 Suzuki GS500E when she went to college. She put 85,000 miles on that Suzuki in only 4 years.

I started out just 3 years ago on a kind of beat-up Honda Shadow 600. Good bike to learn on, but I wanted something with a little more power and cruising range. I was still in my "cruiser" mode, so I picked up a brand new Kawasaki Vulcan 900. I farkled the heck out of that bike and liked it, except for long rides. I rented a 2015 R1200RT for a road trip up to SE Nevada and that put the end to my cruiser affliction. Sold the Vulcan and bought a demo F800GT with full warranty. Not quite the RT, but much better for distances than the previous bikes. Then I picked up a 2017 RNineT Scrambler from a co-worker and re-fell in love with the boxer twin. The F800GT just hasn't felt the same ever since. The RT was too top-heavy for me and not easy for me to manage in parking lots, so I rented a 2016 R1200RS to see if that would be a good alternative. It most certainly is and I've now put down a deposit for a 2017 Lupin Blue. I hope to take delivery next month.
