I've got a mate (yes amazing) who paints for a hobby/paid work, seems to do a lot of large scale model helicopters, and he's offered to transform the drab grey panniers into something in keeping with the bikes colour scheme. The problem is working out what the colours are and where to source the paint.

I can see the BMW designation of N38 Light Grey metallic and N86 Lupin Blue metallic. Has anybody got any ideas of what and where? It needs to be in the UK ideally.

    Thanks - hopefully.

This is interesting. I too find the BMW boxes universally coloured, i.e. dull, and it would be nice to see someone paint it to make it more in line with the rest of the bike. One thing I will give the Lupin folks .... paining their BMW panniers to match the bike would bee much more dramatic than painting them to match the Granite Grey bikes like mine. That said, if a touch of the colours from the "RS" badge (black and orange-red) were introduced as, say, a stripe along the mid height crease, that would probably look sharp.

It's likely to be Lupin blue with a white overlay, sort of stripe but following the contours of the pannier, and the RS logo

The box paint is also as soft as cheese. Look at it and it marks. Another reason for doing it.

I've found the codes now Lupin is M25 and Light Grey is M21, glasurit codes.

In the meantime, a touch of color can highlight the bags nicely as I have done with mine. Colors can be any of your choice and there are options for design layout. image.jpeg

Why did you not use blue and white (lupin and light grey) which I think would have looked more aligned withe bike?

Here is a better photo. The choice of color is always up to the individual. Painting the entire case is also an option. I felt that there was enough Lupin Blue already. The lighter stripe is actually light grey. image.png

I would have preferred plain black plastic finish, but that's not available on the panniers. I had an '04 K-RS like that and I thought they looked great. Plus they were easy to clean and easy to remove scuffs.

Great post. I have had the same thoughts. My idea would be to take the contour shapes of the front fairing and tank and run that across the panniers. Then add your colours - in my case I would simply go with blue/white. For the Granite dudes I would suggest granite as the main colour with a darker metallic grey for the accent. I would stay away from accent stripes as IMHO it would make the panniers stick out like dogs balls.

Thanks, I had it for 4 years and put 24k miles on it. Of all the bikes I've owned, I had a the biggest emotional attachment to this one. But, alas, the dealer and BMW could not keep up their part of the deal - the rear seal on the shaft was replaced a number of times under warranty, and it was leaking yet again when I decided to sell it. Then the dealer bent a valve at the 24k service. Then I sold it because that's not what motorcycling is about for me.

I agree. I like the looks of unpainted bags and the ease of keeping them looking good.

I'd love to see blue panniers, but I'd be in tears once they get scratched/damaged.

If I could afford the OEM luggage I'd cover them in 3m carbon textured DiNoc.

Always dealers choice. I didn’t want to overdue the blue.
