Please forgive me guys but I've ordered a R1200RT. I always thought they looked a bit staid and I like at least some concession to sportiness on a bike and in the 2018 RT both have been addressed. If you go for the "sport style" option you get a very nice 2 tone paint job in mars red metallic/slate grey and a "sport" ie slightly less barn door like windshield. Much nicer than the drab all one colour of before. And I've fallen for it! ( the marketing that is!)
Having test ridden it, it does everything theRS does with no trade off and you get a little bit more into the bargain, e.g. heated seat, hill start, luggage, better weather protection and I must say I do like the more upright riding position. I realise £1000 worth of panniers and bar risers may have achieved much the same thing but I do like the faired in mirrors and indicators and the trump card is the instruments and sat nav mount which are simply way better. The dash is the RS's worst feature.
    Can I be forgiven?

Hopefully the RS will soon get the tft dash that is now a £595 option, see pic, on the GS but will anyone buy one in iced chocolate?

I agree the dash on the RS could be better, but the picture shows one that is worse. I came from a K 1200 GT and in my opinion it had the perfekt dash. Sure it could be better but it seems BMW dont like round instruments. Just my opinion.

I owned an RT (1150) and simply didn't find the riding position engaging, too much of a sit-in rather than sit-on bike, felt like an oversized scooter, then there's the telelever forks - completely lacking in feedback. I hope you are more satisfied with this latest incarnation than I was!

I had an '11 RT for two years- just couldn't get over the sheer SIZE of the damned thing! Couldn't fault the handling or the way it ran, but could not come to grips with the seating position or size. YMMV

I went to my dealer looking to buy an RT, but the RS stole my heart. Like boxerboy, I much prefer the USD forks...and the lower weight sealed the deal. That said, I bought my RS before the '17/'18 models were available and I did install bar-backs and an aftermarket windshield. A sport version of an RT would have been a temptation...

So, I guess you're forgiven. We'll just slow down so you can keep up...

I posted up on the new 2018 colours a few weeks back and included the pic of the sports spec RT http://r1200rsforums.com/threads/new-colours.4157/
as I thought someone might fall for it, looks like Richard is the first :(.

As well as the bits Richard mentioned he did not mention the mono shock front end on the RT which gives a very different ride - possible the biggest difference in riding terms.

    Enjoy

It's not that much more £ than the Iconic was (about 2k) but with creative accounting it works out at £25 more per month on pcp, admittedly with shovelling in a bit more deposit. I've gone for 4yrs and one of the reasons I've upgraded early is that I've heard forecasts of an interest rate hike next spring so thought it wasn't a bad idea to lock in now

Seems like a lot of the "goodies" such as ESA on our RS are being "options" on the new RT - and the base price will skyrocket if you want those. £1500 for a blue paint job?!
But if I had the money and space I'd have an RT for 2-up touring....
Presumably the telelever front end differs from the one on the GS, or maybe all new RTs are being supplied with the "fix".

one thing on the sat nav mount it doesn't lock. but there is a neat little locking storage pocket that it fits in

ESA is a option on the RS in the US.

And you can't find one in the showroom without all the options.
