I moved to Bucharest in September 2016 and my wife and I will be living here for the foreseeable future. I am now retired and hope to make up for the past few years when I did not get in much riding. I have been a BMW rider since 1993 when I bought a 1985 K100 while I was living in Connecticut. In 1995 I moved to Romania and brought my K bike with me and did some nice riding in Romania until I moved to Minnesota in 2001. I did a lot of riding in the upper Mid-West until 2008 when I moved to Serbia. I joined the BMW MOA in 1993 and was also an active member of the BMW Motorcycle Owners Club of Minnesota (MOCM) for the years I was living there. In 2009, while I was in Serbia, I bought myself another K bike, this time a 1985 K100RS. During the four years I lived in Serbia I covered the country on that bike and made a number of long rides around Europe (the Transfagaras in Romania and the BMW Motorrad Days in 2011, among others). Between October 2012 and February 2016 I was living in Chisinau, Moldova and while I had my K100RS with me there, the riding conditions were not too favorable so I did not put many miles on the bike during those years.
Ever since the R1200RS came out I was fascinated with the bike and eventually I decided that it was time to come into the 21st Century, at least motorcycle wise! I checked the Mobile.de web site off and on during 2014 and I found a nice, low mileage R1200RS in Sofia that I eventually bought in May of 2016. On May 13th I flew to Sofia, completed the purchase of the bike on the 14th and then I took off for Leskovac, in southern Serbia, later that day. I spent some time in Serbia visiting friends that I had not seen in a couple of years and then on Sunday I made the 500 Km ride from Leskovac to Sarajevo. I have posted a Ride Report on my ride from Sofia to Sarajevo on the ride section of the Forum so you can have an idea of my experience with that ride.
Now that we are in Bucharest I have managed to get all of my motorcycles into the same place and I have rented a garage just to use for my biking activities. In addition to the R1200RS I still have my K100RS and I have a 1962 R27 which I had bought in 2002 in Minnesota. The R27 was completely restored by the father of a friend of mine in Serbia and it now looks like it just came out of the showroom. It is now March 2017 and I am getting my R12RS ready for the season and hope to make my first ride later this month to go and visit some friends up in Chisinau, Moldova.
